Discipline, Structure and Continuity

The Standard
We Maintain

Becoming part of the Tygerberg Children’s Choir is more than joining a choir. It is entering a disciplined, structured and supportive musical environment that has shaped young singers for over five decades. Each year, a limited number of new choristers are invited to audition, and we look for young voices with potential, dedication and a genuine love for music.

Maintaining a world class standard requires consistency and commitment. Rehearsals take place during school terms on Tuesdays from 18:30 to 20:30 and Saturdays from 09:00 to 13:00, with an extended rehearsal once per term from 09:00 to 17:00. Rehearsals are held at Goodwood Park Primary School in Goodwood. Choristers are expected to remain with the choir until the end of Grade 9 to support long term musical development and maintain the choir’s standard. Regular attendance at rehearsals and performances is essential.

Transparent Costs That Support TCC’s Work

Financial Contribution

The Tygerberg Children’s Choir operates independently and maintains a professional standard through structured parent contributions. These contributions ensure that every chorister receives high quality musical training, organised performances, and the administrative support required to sustain a choir of international standing.

Below is a clear outline of the financial commitments associated with membership.

Monthly parent contribution: R520

This contribution is supplemented by fundraising and choir performances, and helps cover administration, sheet music, coaching and transport to performances. Parents may occasionally be asked to assist with transport to local engagements.

Once off joining fee (upon acceptance): R1,500

This once off fee confirms your child’s place in the choir and supports the setup and administration required when a new chorister joins. It contributes to onboarding, coordination, and the resources needed to integrate members into rehearsals, communication systems and performance planning.

Once off uniform rental fee: R2,100

This fee covers the use of two choir uniforms (shoes and socks excluded) and helps maintain uniform quality and availability across the choir. It also includes a choir sweater, T shirt and backpack, ensuring each chorister is equipped and presented consistently for rehearsals, performances and tours.

More than talent, we look for growth.

What We Look For

We assess both current ability and long term potential. The audition is structured and supportive, and helps us identify young singers who can grow within the choir’s training programme.

Applicants may be asked to:

  • Perform a short prepared song
  • Repeat simple melodic patterns
  • Complete basic rhythm and pitch exercises

We look for:

  • A clear, healthy natural voice
  • Accurate pitch and a sense of rhythm
  • Musical responsiveness and listening skills
  • Focus, discipline and a willingness to learn
  • A positive team attitude

Formal training is helpful, but not essential. Commitment, coachability and potential matter most.
