This structure was created to represent the interests of the SA-listed property sector.<\/p>\n

Before this, Property Unit Trusts (PUTs) and Property Loan Stock Companies (PLSs) fulfilled similar roles.<\/p>\n

Amendments to tax legislation and JSE listing requirements, effective 1 May 2013, facilitated the transition to the REIT framework. From that date, PUTs were automatically classified as REITs (Trust REITs) and listed on the JSE REIT board, while PLSs could qualify for listing by adopting the new regulatory framework.<\/p>\n

By following successful models like the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts (NAREIT) in the US and the European Public Real Estate Association (EPRA), SAREIT has played a significant role in the growth and sustainability of REITs in South Africa.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1\/2″]
