35 years, blending traditional spitbraai with modern flair to create memorable, high-quality meals
for every occasion. With a strong commitment to excellence, we offer a range of services, from
event planning and bar services to corporate and film catering, ensuring a seamless and
enjoyable experience for all our clients.
From the beginning
Monty
Monty Montandon, a professional butcher for over 45 years owned and operated his butchery in Sea Point which was known for its quality and service. He was well known and respected in the surrounding communities. Monty’s passion for people and love for food drew him to start a second catering business, bringing people together around the braai. With his knowledge of meat and age-old recipes Monty’s Spitbraai was born. Monty was well known for his biltong shops, Joubert and Monty’s (J&M), all the while doing his Spitbraai, which grew from strength to strength.
Monty’s Spitbraai was one of, if not the first, Spitbraai companies in Cape Town.
Carol
Carol Montandon helped Monty in the butchery in the earlier years. Her secret recipes and sauces have been handed down from family member to family member through the generations. She adds her own special “homemade” flair to these traditional South African dishes. We are blessed to have ‘The queen of Spitbraai’s’ personally overseeing every salad, canapé and dessert that arrives on your plate. Carol, oversees the baking and cooking with passion and love.
20 Years Later
Athol and Jake
Athol and Jake Montandon, the current owners, have been part of Monty’s since their teenage years, tagging along with their dad. At the age of 20 they became business partners with their father. They both have over 20 years’ experience.
Today, over 20 years later, Monty’s Famous Spitbraai & Catering is managed and operated by Athol and Jake Montandon who introduce a modern flair while maintaining the tradition of quality and excellence passed down from their father. They are both hands on at functions and personally manage and oversee the functions along with their dedicated team.
It’s an honour to cater for you in your home or at your venue. We strive to maintain reputation for excellence which we know would make our father proud. We are passionate about people and love food. ‘From our family to yours’. Over the years we have introduced additional services enabling us to make planning your event or special occasion effortless, they include: Event planning and hiring, Film and corporate catering, Bar service and Staffing Solutions (Bar and waiter).
