The Volunteer Program
Freedom Recovery Centre offers a GAP Year program. After 6 months in the program, residents who would like to serve other recovering addicts on primary care program, can apply for the GAP Year Program.
In this program, the resident will be working at the Primary care facilities as volunteers in the kitchen, security or in vocational training. Please note no resident can become a volunteer counsellor as per law, service users must be three years sober and clean before he can be appointed as a counsellor.
Yip, you read correctly! FRC is now offering a GAP year for anyone who was in addiction and has no idea what to do after rehab! Isn’t it better to give back to others than to go back home and do nothing? Have you felt so many times during your program you would like to help others like you but you don’t know how?
Who are we?
That’s right you know us! Serving the Community already since 2008!
Freedom Recovery Centre, situated in Nigel, Gauteng, was called to life to give support to the parents and families suffering the pain and devastating consequences of drug- and alcohol abuse in South Africa.
We are furthermore committed to the provision of a short and long-term rehabilitation centre in the heart of the Gauteng Province, where lost and addiction-tired substance abusers can find a true new life! Not only are we committed to save the person from addiction, but also would like to educate him/her in important life skills such as carpentry etc.

Why the Volunteer program?
- Due to financial strain on families, families do not have to pay full program fees for the 12-months.
- You can still have an extended recovery program without being a financial burden
- You learn new skills and learn how to cope with difficult circumstances in your life, while working with others.
- You will be able to give back to other residents as you received a second chance on life!
- Perhaps join our Bible school for a year and stay on and receive decent hands-on training as well.
We understand the pain and trauma families had to endure with the active user. We have understanding for the severity of addiction and the losses due to addiction, hence this program will help you and your family as well!
What do we offer you to help your recovery as well?
- A twelve-month extended program free of charge while we train you how to deal with difficult circumstances in your life.
- We do not offer any remuneration during this 12-month period. It is not a job, but an opportunity to give back to others.
- We do offer free Accommodation at the centre or our halfwayhouse in town.
- Free Meals as per menu at the centre. We provide food for you while you are at the centre working. You must only provide food for yourself when you are at the halfwayhouse during your off days.
- Free Counselling and support as you need it. Remember, it is your responsibility to still look after your own recovery while helping others.
- A time to share your testimony at schools, churches, and companies. Some of your friends and family members may still see you as a failure, but when you share your testimony at schools, you will realise that the power your testimony has to change the lives of others who might started using drugs.
