About Us
Freedom Recovery Centre was established in December 2008, with an abundance of passion and enthusiasm and only R128 in the bank. From their humble beginnings they have grown into an organisation that serves 142 clients with 70 full time staff and volunteers in three centres. They have a subsidized centre serving 40 males and 12 female services users, a private centre serving medical aid and cash paying clients (30 males) and a subsidized halfway house serving 42 male residents.
Freedom Recovery Centre is in good standing with the Department of Social Development and received their registration as a rehabilitation facility that complies with the determinations of Act 70 of 2008 (The Prevention of and Treatment for Substance Abuse Act) in 2013. In 2018 they were announced as “The Best Practices” treatment centre in Gauteng.
Freedom Recovery Centre has also been involved in assisting other emerging organisations with their registration, amongst others Barberton Recovery Centre, Polokwane Recovery Centre etc. They also train emerging support groups on working with persons living with substance use disorder.
More About Us
The underlying ethos of Freedom Recovery Centre is one of “loving people back to life.” This they achieve by using evidence-based treatment models such as pharmacotherapy, cognitive behavioural therapy, dialectical behavioural therapy, psychotherapy (including individual counselling sessions as well as group therapy sessions) and the 12 steps of recovery program. Their services are upheld by a multidisciplinary team consisting of registered social workers, registered counsellors, addiction counsellors, social auxiliary workers, registered nurses, enrolled nurses, a clinical psychologist, occupational therapist as well as a psychiatrist.
In addition to their comprehensive in-patient treatment facilities, Freedom Recovery Centre also succeeded in registering their first out-patient centre in Nigel that offer, amongst others, aftercare programs and a support group.
Freedom Recovery Centre was honoured as the Winner of the Best Practice Treatment Centre Award in 2018. Additionally, we were recognised as the Best Drug Rehab Centre in Gauteng for 2022 by MEA Market Magazine UK.
Located in Gauteng, Freedom Recovery Centre operates as a Registered Rehab facility. Our comprehensive services are included in the monthly program fees and encompass a range of professional support.

We also cater to Medical Aid clients, offering up to six weeks of treatment free of charge. This allows patients the flexibility to extend their stay beyond the standard 21 or 24 days, ensuring comprehensive support throughout their recovery journey.
